Throughout his career, Marcel Lauzière has had the privilege of leading several national nonprofits, including: Founding Executive Director of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences; President and CEO of the Canadian Council on Social Development; President and CEO of Imagine Canada and currently, President and CEO of a national grant-making foundation, the Lawson Foundation.

He has also been a senior civil servant here in Canada and abroad in New Zealand: Special Advisor to the President at the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and Deputy Chief Executive (Assistant Deputy Minister) in the New Zealand Ministry of Social Development.

He has been an active volunteer on numerous boards and committees including the International Council of Social Welfare, the Statistics Canada Advisory Committee on Social Conditions, the Governor General’s Advisory Committee on Giving and Volunteering, the Accounting Standards Oversight Council, the Public Policy Forum, and, the YMCA Canada (past Chair). He currently serves on the Boards of the Definity Insurance Foundation (Chair of Governance) and BGC Canada.

He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) and the Governor General’s Cross for Meritorious Service (2016) for his contributions to philanthropy and the charitable sector in Canada.

He holds an MA in Canadian History from the University of Ottawa and has received an honorary degree from George Brown College.

Marcel lives in Cantley, Qc. and works out of Foundation House in Toronto.

Au long de sa carrière, Marcel Lauzière a dirigé plusieurs organismes caricatifs pancanadiens : Directeur général-fondateur de la Fédération canadienne des sciences humaines; Président et Directeur général du Conseil canadien de développement social, Président et Directeur général d’Imagine Canada et présentement Président et Directeur général de la Fondation Lawson, une fondation subventionnaire qui oeuvre partout au Canada.

Il a également œuvré à titre de haut-fonctionnaire au Canada et à l’étranger: Conseiller spécial au Président du Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines du Canadaet Sous-ministre adjoint au Ministère du développement social de la Nouvelle-Zélande. 

Il est un bénévole actif et il a siégé à plusieurs conseils et comités consultatifs dont Le Conseil international de l’action sociale, le Comité consultatif de Statistique Canada sur les conditions sociales, le Comité consultatif du Gouverneur-général sur la philanthropie et le bénévolat, le Conseil de surveillance de la normalisation comptable, le Forum sur les politiques publiques, et le YMCA Canada (ancien président). Il siège présentement aux conseils d’administration de la Definity Insurance Foundation (président de la gouvernance) et de BGC Canada.

On lui a décerné la Médaille du jubilée de la reine Élizabeth II(2012) ainsi que la Croix du service méritoire du Gouverneur général(2016) pour sa contribution à la philanthropie et au secteur caritatif.

Il détient une maîtrise en Histoire du Canada de l’Université d’Ottawa et il a reçu un diplôme honorifique du Collège George Brown à Toronto.

Marcel vit à Cantley, au Québec, et travaille à Foundation House à Toronto.
