In Episode 4 of our Child & Youth Diabetes Strategy Virtual Learning and Connecting Series, alongside our partner, First Nations Education Council, we heard from David Gill, a retired National Team athlete and First Nations Health promotion specialist.
During the session, we had the opportunity to explore high-impact, community-centred initiatives designed to foster health and well-being within First Nations communities. We delved into projects like the Ancestors’ Challenge and The Great Portage, showcasing how they move beyond conventional methods of physical education and uncovered how culture, community, and physical activity come together to create empowering experiences.
David provided insights into the rationale, design, and impact of these projects, all of which aim to drive meaningful change and foster a strong sense of community. For the audience, this was an opportunity to learn from a field expert on how innovative approaches are making a lasting difference.
