The 2012-13 diabetes funding opportunity is open for applications.  Submission deadline:  Monday, May 28, 2012 at 11:59 pm ET. 

The Foundation seeks to award $2,000,000 through a Canada-wide call for letters of intent.  Ten (10) project grants will be awarded of $200,000 (maximum) payable over 2 years. HOW TO APPLY

The 2012 round is the first of three rounds of funding to award $6,000,000 ($2,000,000/round) to projects using a Canada-wide call for letters of intent in 2012, 2014 and 2016.  

Miggsie Lawson Program

Established in 2004, the Miggsie Lawson Program supports charities in the London, Ontario area. Grants are awarded from time to time to honour Miggsie's memory and her love for the London community. Over the years, the Miggsie Lawson Program has distributed $1,140,000.

Children's Health Foundation

$64,000      2011

Specialized physiological monitors for high risk infants and newborns. Toward the purchase of two technologically advanced monitors to help improve outcomes for the medically fragile newborns and infants in the care of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the new Children’s Hospital.

Church of St. John the Evangelist

The Foundation For Gene and Cell Therapy

Huron University College Foundation

For the Huron-Lawson Chair in Pastoral Theology, the primary mandate of which is to further churches’ ability to provide pastoral leadership, teaching, preaching and spiritual nurturing.

Huron-Lawson Chair in Pastoral Theology.  In the 1980s and 90s, contributions from The Lawson Foundation helped launch the Huron-Lawson Chair in Pastoral Theology in the Faculty of Theology, Huron University College in London, Ontario. The Chair prepares students to be effective religious and social leaders, particularly in the areas of communication and pastoral care. Pastoral theology lies at the heart of the Faculty of Theology’s training. For its students, pastoral theology is the touchstone for all ministry and a skill essential to success in their chosen careers whether in the clergy or the community at large.

The total $1,000,000 grant is funded by two program areas at The Lawson Foundation:  Special Program - $750,000 and Miggsie Lawson Program - $250,000.

L'Arche London

Toward the campaign to build Bethany House, the third L'Arche London home for persons with developmental disabilities.

London Community Foundation

The YES (Youth Engaging in Society) Initiative. To support strategic projects within London Community Foundation’s Neighbourhood granting program that will strengthen neighbourhoods through youth and nurture partnerships where possible with neighbourhood associations, youth councils and others.

Mission Services of London Foundation

To support the work of Mission Services to provide hope to those seeking emergency shelter and support by offering safe shelter, food and clothing and by facilitating rehabilitation as needed, in an atmosphere of compassion.

Museum of Ontario Archaeology

The Museum, located beside the Lawson Prehistoric Iroquoian Village, a site occupied by the Neutral Iroquoians in the 16th century A.D., is devoted to the study, display and interpretation of the human occupation of Southwestern Ontario over the past 11,000 years. To upgrade the Lawson Family Theatre and support the revitalization of the Museum premises and Lawson Prehistoric Iroquoian Village.

Royal Canadian Regiment Fund

$10,000      2007-2008 

The Royal Canadian Regiment Museum educates members of the Regiment and all Canadians, especially young Canadians, about the vital importance of Canada's military heritage. Toward the RCR Museum Fund Campaign for technical service upgrades to maintain current museum standards and for expansion of exhibit space.

Salvation Army London Centre of Hope

To support the Centre of Hope to provide hostel services for men and women, family services, housing support, withdrawal management, emergency response and VON/Salvation Army health and social services.

SARI Therapeutic Riding

$10,000      2007-2008

SARI provides opportunities for people with special needs to move towards greater independence and freedom through their connection with horses by offering therapeutic riding and driving programs. “In memory of Tom Allan” - toward construction of the new office area, part of SARI’s capital campaign to build a new barn, fencing and office/meeting space and expand the riding arena.

South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre

$10,000      2011

To support the Centre’s community based and community driven projects for children, youth and families that nurture and enhance a healthy quality of life for the residents of this populous and highly diverse neighbourhood.

St. John Ambulance Foundation (London)

$15,000      2007-2008

To support St. John Ambulance in its work to help Canadians improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training in first aid, CPR and other life-saving skills and through community service.  

Thames Valley Children's Centre

$20,000      2007-2008

TVCC’s rehabilitation services help children and young adults with physical, communication or developmental needs reach their potential in terms of independence, self-esteem and participation in society. Toward the campaign to reconfigure and expand the TVCC building and to expand enhancement programs (therapy, specialized programs and clinics).

Thames Valley Education Foundation

For the Lawson Literary Awards Fund* which encourages Grade 7 and 8 students to research, write and present projects about Canadian issues of interest and significance to them. *Established in 1978 by Col. Tom Lawson in the name of his father, the Hon. Ray Lawson, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1946-1952.

United Way of London & Middlesex

Family Networks Project. Family Networks is a neighbourhood-based family support project that provides access to professional and other community services necessary to keep the family together safely and reduce the number of children in the care of the Children's Aid Society. Launched in 2007, Family Networks responds to the 2003 research report "Protecting Children is Everybody's Business", which identified factors such as poverty, mental illness and woman abuse as contributors to the increasing number of children entering the care of CAS in London. To support this multipartner, multisector initiative to work with families through a mentoring and connecting process that supports family members safely in the community.

Unity Project for Relief of Homelessness in London

To support the work of the Unity Project which provides emergency shelter, transitional housing and counselling to men, women and couples age 18 and over, in a secure home-like setting 24 hours a day.

Western Ontario Therapeutic Community Hostel Inc. (WOTCH)

To support My Sisters’ Place, a transitional centre for women who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness and offers a safe day space, basic needs, supports, assistance and access to community partners.
