Eligibility
The programs Beginning Years, Healthy Active Children, Miggsie Lawson and Special are proactive programs by invitation only.
The Diabetes Program is open to application every two years through a call for letters of intent. The 2012-13 Diabetes Funding Opportunity will be promoted in April - May 2012. Please check on April 10, 2012 for application guidelines and time lines.
Beginning Years
Beginning Years focuses on the healthy development of very young children, prenatally to five years of age. The program's goal is to ensure children's positive social, emotional and intellectual development during their "miracle years."
The program has two guiding principles:
- Promoting healthy child development and preventing problems from developing in the first place.
- Transferring evidence-based knowledge to community by linking researchers, practitioners, very young children and their caregivers together in a partnership.
The Beginning Years Program is under review currently. We regret that we are unable to accept letters of inquiry at this time.
Healthy Active Children
The Foundation envisions a nation whose children lead healthy active lives from birth onward. The Healthy Active Children Program’s goal is a nation that values and exemplifies a healthy active way of living for children from birth to 18.
The program’s objectives are:
- to foster attitudes and behaviours in children that will lead them to pursue healthy, active lives; and
- to increase the participation of children and their families in initiatives that result in healthy, active lives.
The Healthy Active Children program is a proactive program. We have committed support to several multi-year initiatives and regret that we are unable to accept letters of inquiry at this time.
Diabetes
The diabetes funding strategy awards grants every two years through a public call for letters of intent.
The next Canada-wide call for letters of intent will be promoted in Apri - May 2012. We intend to award $2,000,000 in grants over 2012-13 to 10 innovative projects that best meet the criteria. The maximum project grant to be awarded will be $200,000.
Please check on April 10, 2012 for application guidelines and time lines.

Since its launch, the program has awarded 19 grants totalling almost $1,000,000.
The Miggsie Lawson Program is a proactive program and is not open for applications.
Special and Advised
Special — Through this program, the Foundation has the flexibility to explore new opportunities, to respect historic associations, to support the ongoing work of a grantee, and to collaborate with funders and partners.
The Special Program is proactive and participation is by invitation. We are unable to accept letters of inquiry.
Advised — This program allows the Board of Directors, using limited funds reserved for this purpose, to support special initiatives in their home communities. The program is not open to applications.
